 1) Alioune, senegalesischer Essayist französischer Sprache, * Saint-Louis (Senegal) 10. 1. 1910, ✝ Paris 2. 5. 1980; gründete 1947 in Paris die Zeitschrift »Présence africaine. Revue culturelle du monde noir«, das bedeutendste Publikationsorgan der literarischen und politischen Négritude, das er bis zu seinem Tode leitete.
 
 2) Birago, senegalesischer Schriftsteller französischer Sprache, * Ouakam (heute zu Dakar) 11. 12. 1906, ✝ Dakar 25. 11. 1989; Tierarzt, zeitweilig im diplomatischen Dienst; schrieb Gedichte und Erzählungen, die von der Realität und den Traditionen seiner Heimat geprägt sind.
 
Werke: Erzählungen: Les contes d'Amadou Koumba (1947); Les nouvelles contes d'Amadou Koumba (1958; deutsch Auswahl aus beiden Bänden unter dem Titel Aus den Geschichten des Amadou Koumba); Contes et lavanes (1963); Contes d'Awa (1977).
 
Gedichte: Leurres et lueurs (1960).
 
Autobiographien: La plume raboutée (1978); À rebrousse-temps (1982); À rebrousse-gens (1985); Sénégal (1987); Et les yeux pour me dire (1989).
